This was a small test tile set I did as a spec job.  This is the raw working document, so it’s not arranged in a pretty manner.  You can see how I’m trying out tiles in different combinations and checking them against neighbor relations.  The sprites came from the client.

Happy Bday Thomas Noppers Thomas Noppers is one of the makers of the rather promising-looking Mutant Gangland.  One of his robot scouts has recognized his age has increased despite all efforts of extermination.

I found some interesting versions of the CGA palette that I mashed together into a single array.  I added a dark grey to help round it off, and I might make another change or two but I’m kinda surprised what I can get out of these colours.

Halftone Pixel Art Trial

I’m trying out some halftone patterns in Gimp to let me print my pixel art with a common black and white laser printer.  I want to use a cheap medium for prototyping and possibly game design, but I still want the results to look deliberate and attractive.  I feel like this vertical scanline pattern has a bit of an ASCII terminal look that I enjoy.

Ogres

OgresI want to design more creatures and fleshy things.  I started this ogre with a desire to make something that wasn’t at all teched-out, and proceeded to draw a couple ‘costumes’ for it to build out more character.  It was really fun drawing over the base sprite, and I feel like getting the body established first made the armour design much easier.
