From the archives: ‘Hellgame’

‘Hellgame’ was the working title of a project James Dewar started back in 2008.  It used a vaguely Lemmings-like engine to model destructable / fillable 2D terrain maps.  It never got much past the early embryonic stages, but James had coded a rather cool engine for it which had some pretty interesting features, like procedural vines the player could climb, lightning, and vector support.

‘Hellgame’ was played by directly controlling the player character, and was more of a freeform platformer adventure than a strictly puzzle game.  It was a direct inspiration for the original mockup of The Salvage.
